4 Port Switch Networking Basics
Are you interested in inforation about 4 port switch? If so, we hope you enjoy this article.
Bridging your network, to the world. A 4 port switch is primarily used to connect multiple computers to the same network connection to route an access to the internet. There are different kinds of routers – the LAN or cabled router and the wireless system router. Both however, serve the same function of allowing access to any computer through a particular local based IP with a static or dynamic IP, coming from the server.
A disadvantage of the wireless connection on a 4 port switch is that security is greatly lessened. Anyone in range can theoretically and practically hack into your IP address, and can steal valuable information or at least hi-jack your signal. A solution for this dilemma is to use a quality firewall. This will prevent prying eyes from tracking your connection and bridging their own computer through your signal. Firewalls are not perfect. A dual solution would be to utilize a proxy server through the 4 port switch and using updated personal firewalls on each PC. The server, through the 4 port switch should then be augmented to allow only specified connections to enter into the 4 port switch and to the local area network. Of course the same problems could exist on a cabled local area network, however lesser in magnitude than the wireless connectors.
Another way to increase security is to use an encryption system. Encryption algorithms require the use of a super-password which scrambles your personal information with complicated keys. It is routinely used, not only for email security, online transactions such as e-purchases or online money transactions.
The type of 4 port switch that you need depends on the speed of your connection.. If you are using regular DSL or cable modem, you don't need the speed it would require to run, say a database backbone or a major hub. It is important to get a switch that is fast enough, for your connection, to prevent unnecessary wastage of bandwidth. After all, what would be the price of paying for high speed service which you couldn't use them.
A 4 port switch also allows the different computers on your network to speak with each other. This can be useful for both business and recreation. For corporate settings, you can work on and modify the same documents, or send memos back and fourth on the local network. But my favorite, personally, is to play network games through these systems. After work, I love to sit down, with a friend for a fast paced RPG game or a nice strategy game over the 4 port switch, and blow off the day’s steam. Sometimes, however, the competition gets pretty heated and intense. And that is even better. In totality, a 4 port switch is certainly what you need when you want to run a local business or home network. The 4 port switch can accommodate almost any data transfer for small to medium sized business companies which require the connectivity, through a 4 port switch.
